MARCHING BAND & COLOR GUARD
If my student is in Marching Band - do they attend all football games and what do they wear?
Marching and Color Guard students attend HOME football games, including the Homecoming Game.
Attire for home football games is blue jeans, and WHS Bands & Guard T-shirt. T-shirts will be available for purchase at Uniform Fitting nights before the beginning of the Fall term. (For more information about T-shirts or other Spirit Wear, contact Coordinator Venus Carda.
At the Homecoming Game students wear their Marching Uniform.
What kind of Marching do they do?
The Marching Band will be competing in Field Show.
How much are Marching Band Uniforms?
WHS Band Boosters cover the cost of Marching Band and Color Guard uniforms. However, families need to purchase shoes, gloves and socks. Parents are also asked to pay a fee to cover dry cleaning at the end of the season.
Will my student be provided with food at Marching Competitions?
The WHS Band Boosters provides at least one hot meal and/or snack at each competition. Many competition locations have snack bars and food trucks. We encourage you to visit the websites of school competition locations for more information as well.
Will they practice before or after school?
Not usually. WHS Marching Band/Concert Band rehearse during class time. They do, however, have a Super Saturday early in the school year (See Calendar) to kick off the marching season with rehearsals and clinics.
How should hair be styled for marching competitions?
Students with long hair should arrive before every competition, and on the bus with their hair up in a high, tight ponytail or bun. Sides should be smooth and "in place," especially around the ears and the nape of the neck. Bobby pins and (lots of) hairspray work well. Another idea that works well is to us an elastic headband that matches your hair color to hold down fly-away hairs. There is often not enough time for touch-ups and fine tuning before a competition. Doing the bulk of hair prep before arriving helps ensure the marching band is on time for a great competition.
What to wear under the marching uniform?
Students need white T-shirts (no tank tops) and black shorts under uniforms, along with long black socks for marching competitions and Fall Tour. Also, no make-up, jewelry or nail polish. The goal is complete uniformity! Students are frequently required to change into uniforms in public areas, so wearing the t-shirt and shorts as underclothes is a great idea.
